The fifth biennial meeting of the Medical Advisory Board (MAB) to the University of Wisconsin and GE Healthcare CT Protocol Optimization Partnership occurred virtually the week of October 16, 2023. The purpose of the MAB meetings is to reaffirm the current CT protocol settings and identify additional areas for improvement, as well as being an opportunity to discover ideas in the field that would take full advantage of GE’s new technical advances.
The CT Protocol team enlists the help of clinical radiologists from across the country with CT expertise in the subspecialties of abdominal, chest and cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, and pediatrics. The first MAB met in 2015 to collaborate and share their unique expertise for improving upon the first generation of the UW CT protocols. Additional MAB’s were held in 2017, 2019, and 2021, with the 2021 session being held virtually and including two additional areas of expertise— CT Protocol Impact on Artificial Intelligence Applications, and Dual-Energy (GSI). The recently-held 2023 MAB included all previous sessions , with the addition of sessions that focused on Photon Counting CT and CT Contrast. Virtual meetings are held over the course of a week allowing board members to attend their subspecialty session, as well as numerous individual breakout sessions in which they have specific knowledge and experience.
The next Medical Advisory Board meeting will be scheduled in 2025. If you feel passionate about CT protocol development and would like to share in this experience, please contact us.
